Product tips

Gildewerk Colour tablets

Colour tablets consist of paraffin with a high concentration of ultrafine candle pigment. This pigment is colourfast and non-fading. It mixes very well and is harmless when burnt. Our colour tablets are available in numerous shades.

The complete colouring of moulded candles
1. Melt the wax.
2. Stir the molten wax thoroughly.
3. Fill a pourer with wax.
4. Add half to a maximum of one colour tablet per litre of wax.
5. Wait for the tablet to dissolve. Stir the wax well and fill the casts.

Please note: When moulding, make sure that the wax is at a temperature of 90 °C. If it isn’t, first heat it further in the Gildewerk Mini-Bain or the D14J-00100 Gildewerk Moulding set.

Making dipping colour wax
1. Prepare plastic duo bowls (melting bowls).
2. Note the colour tablet colour code on the bowl with a felttipped pen.
3. Place three colour tablets in each of the two recesses of the bowl. Fill the recesses with hot paraffin to just below the brim. Stirring is not necessary. Gildewerk Coating wax DPW-00011 is ideal for this purpose.
4. Allow the wax to cool.
5. (Re)fill the colour canister containing the colour tablets with wax granules. Now you will have the correct ratio between paraffin and pigment.
6. Prior to use, thoroughly stir the colour wax using an up-anddown pumping motion. The Gildewerk mixing rod is ideal for this purpose. If a foam layer is still present, wait for it to dissipate before dipping. (12 tablets/kg)

Colouring candles with dipping colour wax
1. Use a thermometer to make sure that the colour wax is at a temperature of 75 °C.
2. Fix a hanging card to the wick of a pair of white candles.
3. Hold the candles by the hanging card. Allow them to touch the surface of the colour wax. Now dip them to a level just below the hanging card.
4. If you are dipping dinner candles with a diameter of 20 mm, hold the candles under for four to five seconds. Thinner candles should be dipped for a somewhat shorter period.
5. Remove the candles from the wax and dab off their undersides.
6. You can also dip moulded candles using this method.

Mixing
Colours can be mixed to create new shades. Remember that dark colours dominate blended shades.

  • Check whether you have created the correct shade by letting some colour wax set.
  • Note the colour codes and mix ratios so that you will be able to reproduce the colour.

    Please note!
  • Long term 90-95 °C heating will have a negative effect on colour pigment.
  • Every kind of wax has its own base colour which influences the colour of the candle.
  • The addition of stearine especially influences the colour.
