Which wick to use for your candle

These wick sizes are only an indication
Always light a sample first. Your test is definitive.
If the wick is too thin, the candle will leak.
If it's too thick, the candle will create smoke.

Paraffin candles
Flat wick for dipped candles:   For moulded candles:
Ø < 10 mm : 3x2,   Ø < 20 mm: 3x6,
Ø 10 - 15 mm : 3x4,   Ø 20 – 55 mm: 3x8,
Ø 15 - 18 mm : 3x6,   Ø 55 – 75 mm: 3x10,
Ø 18 - 20 mm : 3x8,   Ø 75 -100 mm: 3x12,
Ø 20 - 50 mm : 3x10,   Ø >100 mm: 3x14,
Ø > 50 mm : 3x12   For tapered candles (like pyramids), calculate according to the average diameter.

Candles of Rapeseed wax/EcoSoya/Ecowax
Rapeseed wax/EcoSoya/Ecowax requires a reasonably thick wick, 1 – 2 sizes thicker than those used with paraffin.
  • Ø < 20 mm ? flat wick 3x10
  • Ø 20-50 mm ? flat wick 3x12
  • Ø 50-60 mm ? flat wick 3x14
  • Ø 60-80 mm ? flat wick 3x16
Beeswax candles
Ø 20 – 40 mm: round wick Nr. 5
Ø 40 – 70 mm: round wick Nr. 7
Round wick is specially made for dipped- and rolled beeswax candles. It has a flat and a round side. On the flat side, the woven fibres form a V. The end of the V must face the bottom of the candle.

Stearin candles
The type number of the stearin wick (30-40-50-60-70-80) corresponds to the thickness of the candle in millimetres. So, for a candle with a 6 cm diameter, you would use Stearin wick 60.
With tapered candles, the maximum diameter must be taken into account.
Thick stearin candles are never leak proof, so a coaster or candleholder must be used.
Stearin candles burn with a large flame. Trimming the wick to reduce the size of the flame will aggravate the leaking.

Wax wick, pre-waxed
PPB without foot is suitable for small free-standing candles. You can fix this wick to a wick foot yourself. Please note: This wick has a burning direction. The red side must be at the bottom.

WPT with wick foot is suitable for candles in containers

Ø 9 cm: No. 3   use wick No 3
Ø 15 cm: No. 4
Ø 19 cm: No. 5,
Ø > 19 cm: No. 7
