Dipping Canister and Dipping Paint Canister

These water-based dipping lacquers are intended for use in the painting of candles. The synthetic tub, included free of charge, is suitable for the dipping of smaller moulded candles. The tub contains 1 litre of lacquer. For the painting of dinner candles, Gildewerk has developed a special dipping lacquer canister complete with lid and mixing rod. This canister can hold more than 1 litre of lacquer.

Always shake lacquer bottles well before pouring the paint into a tub or the dipping lacquer canister.

Regularly stir the lacquer before and during use.

Use

1. Make sure that the dipping lacquer canister is free of any dust and place the special mixing rod into the canister. You can use a spoon to stir lacquer in a tub.

2. Shake the bottles of lacquer well before pouring the lacquer into the tub or canister.

3. Fill the dipping lacquer canister to 5 cm below its rim. The fill level depends on the size of the item to be coloured.

4. Allow the lacquer to rest until all the bubbles have disappeared. It is pointless to dip candles in lacquer which contains bubbles. As the lacquer dries, the bubbles will slide down the candle, dragging the lacquer with them.

5. Before dipping, slowly stir the lacquer with a spoon for about 1 minute. Use a vertical pumping motion with the supplied mixing rod in the canister. Make sure that the mixing rod does not break the surface of the lacquer, because you will then put air back into the lacquer. For the same reason, the mixing rod must not be removed from the lacquer after stirring.

6. Grip the point of the candle(s). Allow the underside to rest on the surface of the lacquer. Slowly push the candle beneath the surface and remove it from the lacquer. Candles will float on the surface of the lacquer, so you will have to push them down with your fingers.

7. Carefully hang the painted candles and allow them to dry for a few hours. Remember that lacquer will still drip from them.

8. Handle painted candles with care. The layer of lacquer is thin and is more fragile than a layer of colour wax.

9. After use, close the canister or tub.

10. After some time, the water in the lacquer will evaporate, even if it is sealed. Even lacquer which has become very thick can be thinned with water. Add small amounts of water – these are easier to mix into the lacquer. Avoid thinning the lacquer too much.
