Marbling Candles
Decorating candles with marble wax is great fun. Using this method, you can easily make unique, luxurious candles for which customers will be prepared to fork out extra money.
Marble wax is made from a special type of paraffin. There is nothing extraordinary about the hot wax. However, once the wax sets, a marble-like structure appears on the candle. When coloured marble wax is used, different colour shades appear in the marble layer.
You can dip (parts of) candles in marble wax. You can also pour marble wax over parts of candles.
Heating
1. Melt the marble wax. If you use a Combi colour canister, you can only dip candles in the marble wax. The colour canister is too narrow to allow you to pour the wax over the candles. Here, take a more professional approach by using the Gildewerk Deco. You can easily pour marble wax onto candles above the wide trays of the Deco. If you would like to work with marble wax on a small scale, you can use the Gildewerk Mini-Bain 1000. Please note: clean the aluminium pourer thoroughly after use with marble wax. This will extend its useful life.2. You can process marble wax at 60-80 °C temperatures. At a lower temperature, the marble wax is thicker, but smoother, more white and with a finer structure. Numerous variations are possible when you experiment with the temperature of the wax. The wax’s melting point is 60 °C. If heated to above 80 °C, users can burn their fingers.
The colouring of marble wax
1. Add a maximum of 3 colourtablets per 250 g of marble wax. 2. Wait for the tablets to dissolve.
3. Stir the marble wax thoroughly.
Decorating
1. Dip the candles (partially) just as you would with colour dipping wax.or
2. Hold the candles diagonally (at a 45° angle) above a tray of marble wax and pour the marble wax over the candle using a ladle. An extraordinary effect is created when layers of differently coloured marble wax overlap one another. An added advantage of this method of decoration is that small imperfections on the candles are camouflaged.
